Grimsargh pupils’ creativity celebrated in community welcome card competition.
A creative partnership between Applethwaite Homes and St Michael’s CE Primary School, Grimsargh, has given local pupils the opportunity to see their artwork become part of the community.
Earlier this year, pupils from across the school were invited to design a welcome card for new homeowners moving into the nearby Brookdale housing development. The competition encouraged children to showcase what makes Grimsargh such a special place to live while putting their artistic talents on display.
Following an impressive response, the school shortlisted six outstanding designs, before members of the local community were invited to cast their votes via the Applethwaite Homes Facebook page. The competition attracted over 150 votes, with local residents providing fantastic support.
The winning designs were revealed during a special school assembly on Friday 3 July, where the successful pupils Oliver, age 8 and Brooklyn, age 9 were recognised alongside the other finalists.
The winning artworks have been professionally printed to be used as the official welcome cards for new homeowners moving into Brookdale.
Samantha Palin, Sales Director for Applethwaite Homes, said: “We wanted to create something that truly reflects the warmth and strong sense of community in Grimsargh, and involving the pupils at St Michael’s was the perfect way to achieve that.
“The creativity on display was outstanding, making the votes from across the community really close. We’d like to thank every pupil who took part, the school for its support, and everyone in the community who voted for their favourite design.
“We’re delighted that the winning designs will help welcome new residents to the village and showcase all the reasons why Grimsargh is such a wonderful place to live.”
Mr Stuart Booth, Headteacher at St Michael’s CE Primary School, said: “Our pupils thoroughly enjoyed taking part in this competition and were excited by the opportunity for their artwork to help welcome new residents to the village.
“The children were able to develop their creativity while strengthening their connection with the local community. We are incredibly proud of every pupil who took part and embraced the chance to let their light shine.”
The competition forms part of Applethwaite Homes’ and the Brookdale developments ongoing commitment to working with the local school and celebrating the people who make Grimsargh such a wonderful place to live.
