A new retirement development on the shores of Morecambe Bay has proved to be a great success. Less than two months after the 14 homes at Cove Orchard were completed only four properties remain available.
Developed by Applethwaite Ltd, a division of The Eric Wright Group, Cove Orchard is located in the grounds of Cove House, a residential care home owned and managed by the Silverdale Abbeyfield Society, and comprises a mix of bungalows and apartments together with a residents lounge and access to communal grounds including a seating area with spectacular views across the Bay.
Applethwaite says that since the properties were put on the market 10 of the homes have been sold and there are now only 4 remaining.
Each resident will have access to advice and support from an experienced Cove House manager, who will help to plan and arrange support if required.
James Whewell from Applethwaite Ltd believes Cove Orchard brings something special to retirement lining in Silverdale. “This is the first development of its kind in the area and we’re delighted to have worked with Abbeyfield to establish something that will be a wonderful place to live” said Mr Whewell. “Demand has been high and the house are getting snapped up fast. There is a real need in the area for assisted living and having such beautiful surroundings has made this development an attractive prospect for residents”
June Greenwell, chair of the trustees at Abbeyfield Silverdale, said Cove Orchard was a good example of a voluntary organisation and a private company working together to meet an important social need. “ As trustees we had a clear vision of what was needed and although we had land available, we lacked the know-how or finance to turn our vision into a reality”. Said Dr Greenwell. “Working with Applethwaite made Cove Orchard possible and it is very rewarding to meet prospective purchasers”.
